Lucy Smith Profile

Therapy and Counselling for Trauma Online & Face to Face near Pangbourne, Berkshire.

I work with individuals who are ready to engage in deep, meaningful therapeutic work, particularly in the areas of trauma, addiction, and domestic abuse. My practice is designed for those who may have been carrying complex experiences for some time and are now seeking a skilled, grounded, and professional space to begin making sense of them.

Trauma

I specialise in working with trauma and its lasting impact—whether from childhood experiences, relationships, or significant life events.

Trauma is not always obvious. It can present as anxiety, emotional overwhelm, disconnection, or a persistent sense of being ‘on edge’. Often, these patterns have developed as ways of coping.

Our work together focuses on helping you understand these responses, process underlying experiences, and develop a greater sense of stability, safety, and self-trust.

Addiction

I work with clients navigating addiction and repetitive behavioural patterns, offering a space that is both non-judgemental and clinically informed.

Rather than focusing solely on the behaviour itself, we explore the underlying emotional and psychological drivers, supporting you to create sustainable change.

This approach is particularly suited to those who want to move beyond short-term fixes and engage in longer-term, transformative work.

Domestic Abuse

I support individuals who have experienced domestic abuse, including emotional, psychological, physical, or coercive control.

This work requires a high level of care, sensitivity, and professional understanding. I offer a space where your experiences can be acknowledged without minimisation, and where we can begin to rebuild your sense of autonomy, clarity, and personal strength.

A Considered & Professional Space

Clients who choose to work with me are often looking for more than surface-level support. They are seeking a therapist who can hold complexity, work at depth, and offer a consistent, containing, and thoughtfully structured approach.

I offer online counselling across the UK, with face-to-face sessions near Pangbourne, Berkshire available soon, providing flexibility alongside a high standard of care.

Taking the First Step

Beginning therapy is a considered decision. If you feel that this way of working aligns with what you are looking for, you are welcome to get in touch to arrange an initial session where we can explore your needs in more detail or we can look at having a free 15 minute phone call.

My Intersectional Approach

How I Help?

I offer a holistic and integrative approach to counselling, supporting you to work towards your personal goals in a way that feels safe, collaborative, and tailored to you.

My approach is rooted in person-centred counselling, recognising that you are unique, with your own life experiences, challenges, and strengths. Alongside this, I draw on psychodynamic therapy to help explore how past experiences may be shaping your present, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques to support you in developing practical tools to move forward.

I also integrate a range of approaches where appropriate, including:

  • Hypnotherapy

  • Mindfulness

  • Motivational interviewing

  • Somatic practices

  • Self-care and grounding techniques

This allows us to adapt our work together depending on your needs, whether you are seeking support with anxiety, trauma, stress, or personal growth.

At the heart of my work is creating a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space, where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly. I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel daunting, especially if you are used to managing things on your own. Therapy offers a space that is separate from family and friends, where your experiences can be heard and understood without fear of judgement.

We will work at your pace, giving you the time and space to make sense of what you are going through. Many people experience feelings of loneliness or confusion during difficult times, and counselling can help you feel more supported, grounded, and clear.

Your First Session

We begin with an initial session where we explore your needs, what has brought you to counselling, and what you would like to gain from therapy. From there, we can agree on either:

  • A set number of sessions, or

  • Ongoing, open-ended support

Weekly sessions are often recommended for consistency, but we can tailor this to fit your lifestyle and adjust as your needs change.

If you have any questions or would like to get started, please feel free to get in touch—I aim to offer a warm, welcoming, and supportive space from the very first contact.
